What is Aromatherapy Massage Oil?

Aromatherapy massage oil is a special type of massage oil that contains aromatherapy essential oils. Since it is a massage oil, it contains special oils that make it slippery and easy to glide over the skin. This way, friction is reduced and a more soothing and relaxing massage can be enjoyed. In addition to containing oil, however, it also contains aromatherapy essential oils.

Aromatherapy essential oils are oils that have been extracted from plants. By extracting the oils through a distillation process, aromatherapy essential oils are able to maintain the beneficial properties of the plant from which they are derived.

How Does Aromatherapy Works?

To understand how does aromatherapy works, it is important to first gain a better understating of essential oils. Since aromatherapy essential oils are a concentrated version of the plants they are derived from, it takes very little of the oil to receive the benefits the plant provides. Therefore, aromatherapy massage oil typically only contains a few drops of essential oils. Yet, these oils are potent enough to provide benefits to the recipient.

With aromatherapy, the essential oils are inhaled. As a result, the scent of the essential oils has an effect on the brain, particularly on the limbic system. Depending upon the plant used, the aroma of the plant as well as its healing properties has a different effect on the body. Aromatherapy essential oils are even more potent when used along with massage, as the combination helps to further relax the body and to surround the olfactory system with the scent of the oils.

Some of the benefits of aromatherapy essential oils and the plants that provide these benefits include:

Antibacterial – cinnamon, clove, lime, rosemary and tea tree oil

Anti-inflammatory – bay leaf, black cumin, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus and sage

Antifungal – clove, juniper, lavender, tea tree oil and thyme

Antiviral – ginger, hyssop, lemongrass, peppermint, sandlewood, tea tree oil, thyme

Aromatherapy essential oils can also be used to change a person’s mood, such as using peppermint to energize the body or chamomile to help the body relax.

Regarding plastic bottles, experts are of different opinions. Some say that if plastic gets diluted into the oil, it becomes perilous while some others say that it does not have any bad effect. Thursday, March 19th, 2009
Aromatherapy is the inhalation and bodily application of essential oils from aromatic plants to relax, balance, rejuvenate, restore or enhance body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy is the use of natural oils that are derived from flowers, roots, twigs, and other items. Aromatherapy aims to unite and balance the body, mind and spirit, which is then continually validated through the efficacy of the essential oils. It is so popular today that a number of aromatherapy schools are out there offering opportunities for well-trained and dedicated people. The career opportunities offered by the aromatherapy schools greatly vary.

Different aromatherapy schools may focus on a variety of elements of aromatherapy, while other aromatherapy schools may concentrate on the study of aromatherapy along with the other natural health or allopathic health disciplines. An aromatherapy school teaches a form of complementary massage that uses the sense of smell to help facilitate a positive change when a person is feeling ill. Aromatherapy schools teach students how to use oils which are extracted from plants, these are known as essential oils, other aromatic plant parts are also used to help patients who suffer from many different types of illness.

Aromatherapy schools learn students about the distinct types of vital oils and what sickness they assist to alleviate. For example If the patient is suffering from burns, an aromatherapy pupil will be taught how they should take lavender oil, and too the amount and frequency to use it. Many aromatherapy schools think that aromatherapy is a skill and should simply be practiced in a professional style by aromatherapy school graduates. Although new schools learn the pupil to give upward to there hunch as easily. Which is seen by some as being the more stable manner. An aromatherapy school is offered to primarily medical practitioners as well as massage therapists.

Those who are licensed to practice medicine can take an aromatherapy course if they are interested in supplemental treatment that is holistic. The basic teachings in aromatherapy schools is to address questions such as what is aromatherapy, what different oils are used, how can they be used effectively and how they work on the body and mind. Courses will teach students how aromatherapy works into the bloodstream through inhalation. They will also teach you various ways to blend oils, how different oils have different effects physically and mentally. Some medical doctors disapprove of aromatherapy schools and the practice of aromatherapy.

The Magic of Aromatherapy

Saturday, March 14th, 2009
Aromatherapy utilizes the essential oils from plants and other aromatic compounds to revitalize and relax the human mind. Aromatherapy essential oils are the pure essence of plants, known to cure certain forms of illnesses. One should know that these essential oils which have a pleasant and calming odor are not the same as perfume oils or fragrances. Perfume oils contain artificial compounds, as against the natural essential oils, which have therapeutic and curative benefits.

Aromatherapy seeks to find the effects of various aromas on human behavior. It can be taken through inhalation. Aromatherapy essential oils also can be absorbed by the skin through massages, compresses and baths. It can be absorbed through the mucous membrane through gargles and oral rinses. Ingestion is also another form of aromatherapy.

Using the essential oils in its pure state is just one facet of aromatherapy. In addition, it can also be blended with infusion, hydrosols, carrier oils and phytoncides. Infusions are the aqueous solutions of plants. Hydrosols are like rose water, aqueous derivative of the product after distillation. Phytoncides are natural volatile organic compounds extracted from plants. Carrier oils are often used to dilute essential oils. A case in the point would be the almond oil.

One cannot talk enough about the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy essential oils. It is quite useful for metabolism and the nervous system. One has found a positive impact of aromatherapy in reducing depression, curing insomnia (lack of sleep), and healing acne, joint pains, stress, common cold and other type of diseases. The essential oils of aromatherapy are quite beneficial for dry skin also. It helps make your skin glow and prevents the onset of wrinkles.

Aromatherapy essential oils comprise of avocado, grape seed, jojoba, olive, sesame, sunflower, rose hip, peanut, sweet almond, cocoa butter etc. These are commonly used in aromatherapy. One can make aromatherapy at home by blending eucalyptus, lavender, rosemary, nutmeg and peppermints in the base oils and adding a few drops of basil in the mixture. You can imagine the comfortable and the soothing aura that envelopes you when you add aromatherapy essential oils like lavender and rose drops to the water before you immerse yourself in a pleasurable bath .

Aromatherapy essential oils have antibacterial and antiviral properties ingrained in them. In fact, the basic elements of aromatherapy are essential oils. These oils are highly concentrated and should always be diluted before you apply them on your skin. Certain oils can cause allergic reactions. You can always consult a professional aromatherapist in case of doubt. Not all essential oils should be used in aromatherapy. Onion, garlic, wormseed, wormwood, camphor, wintergreen are some oils that should either be avoided or used only after consulting an aromatherapy practitioner.

Aromatherapy for Depression

Monday, March 9th, 2009
Aromatherapy Scent is the most enduring of our senses. Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential and absolute oils. Essential oils are complex, highly fragrant and volatile substances, with varying degrees of complexity, fragrance, and volatility. They are the most potent and concentrated extracts of various parts of flowers, fruits, leaves, spices, roots, and woods. The plant’s essence molecules are approximately 75-100 times more concentrated as an essential oil than in the dried plant. It is a holistic treatment of caring for the body with pleasant smelling botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender and peppermint. It has the power to transform our emotions, and heal our bodies. Aromatherapy is one of the fastest growing fields in alternative medicine. It is widely used at home, clinics and hospitals for a variety of applications such as pain relief for women in labor pain, relieving pain caused by the side effects of the chemotherapy undergone by the cancer patients, and rehabilitation of cardiac patients. The oils are obtained by steam distillation, expression (squeezing the oil from peel), maceration (immersing the plant in hot oil to release the essence) or enfleurage (pressing flowers between oiled glass plates). The essential oils are aromatic essences extracted from plants, flowers, trees, fruits, bark, grasses and seeds with distinctive therapeutic, psychological, and physiological properties, which improve and prevent illness.

There are about 150 essential oils. These oils are extracted by the means of steam distillation, cold expression, or fixed oil or alcohol extraction. Most of these oils have antiseptic properties; some are antiviral, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antidepressant and expectorant. When you take “Aromatherapy massage” with the essential oils, these oils are absorbed into the bloodstream via the skin. Other properties of the essential oils which are taken advantage of in aromatherapy are their stimulation, relaxation, digestion improvement, and diuretic properties. To get the maximum benefit from essential oils, it should be made from natural, pure raw materials. Synthetically made oils do not work. They may also be added to steam inhalations or baths, added to compresses or spread throughout a room with diffusers. The essential oils used in aromatherapy are the life force of the plants from which they have been extracted. These oils can be massaged on your body, inhaled, added to your bath or sprayed in the air. Cold expression is used for citrus oils, and a method of solvent extraction for absolutes, concretes and resinoids. The newest technological process of extraction is the hypercritical carbon dioxide method: in part due to high cost, it is not as commonly available.

Aromatherapy uses aromatic essences that are extracted from plants. Aromatherapy is particularly effective in dealing with stress, depression and stress related disorders. ‘Depression’ is a term which encompasses a wide spectrum of psychic problems ans symtoms which, in turn, can lead to more serious illnesses. Aromatherapy, in helping to relax the patient and by reducing stress, may actually help to prevent such conditions. Depression related disorders, such as digestive problems, stress and other mental problems, can be treated by Aromatherapy. As depression is reduced, there is a corresponding improvement in sleep patterns and energy levels. In aromatherapy it is believed that the sense of smell is very powerful and directly connected to our brain, and therefore, to the hormonal activity in the body. Based on this logic, we can balance our hormones using essential oils. Many of the essential oils used for depression are from flowers and fruit. These essences have an uplifting effect on the mind and emotions. An aromatic bath two to three times per week is especially helpful for depression. Sometimes the aromatic baths are effective enough on their own as a remedy for mild bouts of depression or feeling blue.

Sandalwood is an essential oil used in yoga and in temples in many religions. It is indicated to treat anxiety, nervousness, and depression. Aromatherapy can help you relax, be energized, and create a feeling of well being. Aromatherapy is an alternative theatment that uses the highly concentrated essential oils that are extracted from plants to treat symptoms and assist in the healing process. Aromatherapy is aimed at revitalizing the body and mind while lifting your spirits. Aromatherapy will aid in promoting a sense of well being. Aromatherapy is also known for easing mental fatigue and insomnia. When you use these wonderful essential oils in the correct blend for massages, baths, diffusers and even personal perfumes you will begin to benefit from the use of aromatherapy. Using aromatherapy for depression will give you the peace of mind and the well being that you need. Bergamot (pressed from the peels of bitter oranges) has a strong reputation for its ability to uplift the mind and emotions. Bergamot has the ability to both relax the nerves and invigorate the spirit; with these actions, this important oil can be helpful for a variety of depressive condtions. Sweet orange, a close relative, works in a similar fashion, with a slightly sweeter aroma.
