Do you think the use of alternative medicine in the US can be attributed to lack of free health care?

Have you ever personally had to turn to alternative treatments because you could not afford to see a doctor?

I personally feel that people turn to this because they generally do not trust the prescription meds, want something more natural…

  2. phillip b Says:

    vested interest
The sin bin -Vested interest Apathy and other unworthy systems

As you can see I am not the only one saying this is happening

hi my background is research inventions where i am in touch with quite a few other researchers some of whom have suffered massively dealing with vested interest factions.
so if you value your health you better get aware of these problems and the health care systems
this information certainly has the capacity to unnerve you. However if you do like to know what is going on and are not afraid of the truth read on, it is very enlightening.

    Drugs and other treatments
There are a few very important points that I would like to cover on the subject of drugs and research and treatment At present the system in England is this

,and this principle will apply to other countries as well

all treatment recommended by the health care people should be tested and approved and quite rightly so

Obviously it costs vast sums of money to test and approve treatments because of the possible damage to people and the subsequent litigation costing millions of pounds.
The point is this Where does this money come from to test and approve treatments?

By far the biggest source is the drug companies.
Do you think drug companies are some charitable institution – in the main they are there to make profit
What do you think the implications of that statement means

So take for example a researcher might go along to his local drug company and tell them his findings about this treatment he has been working on which is of outstanding value but needs testing further or approving, you might think they would be falling over themselves to know more –right, you could not be more wrong.

By and large only treatments which show a profit will even get examined.

Because they are in business to make a profit, not for serving the people.

So many of the thousands of therapies which they see as having no profit potential do not get approved

and thus by and large do not get recommended by your local doctor or hospital despite the fact that some of them do have overwhelming benefits some which have saved needless operations, needless amputations, needless pain and trauma, needless kidney failures and much loss of life.

Did you know there are groups of people begging drug companies to look into certain therapies for their possible benefit but many wont –why– money in the main

Your local G.P/ doctor is not a researcher , what does this mean , he is very taxed with his time that means he cannot do research he finds it very difficult to keep up with what is going on
In the main he is told what to prescribe he does not even have the time often to look at research.

At this minute 2004 approx 5000 Beds are being taken up by people who have had reactions to drugs.

Some will die others will be maimed .That is fact

So Mrs Jones by and large you will probably only get recommended treatments where there is profit in them for someone.
Have you heard your local doctor recommend,
    Massage,
    Spiritual healing,
    Knieisiology
    Herbs,
    Light therapy,
    Colour therapy,
    Regression therapy,
    Osteopathy,
    Zappers,
    Magnetic devices,
    Electrical Frequency devices
    .karma therapy,
    Decent nutrition,
    Beck devices,
    Colonics, enemas,
    Detoxing,
    The violet ray,
    The wet cel
    The radial appliance ,

Has he ever mentioned nutrition what you eat how much protein carbo vitamins etc .

All of these have shown their inherent worth with thousands if not millions of testimonials.

As you can see this system in its present state is inherently flawed which is why you are getting recommended what you are

that is until the day comes when most of the research and testing is done by an agency with no vested interests attached and a clear agenda of being objective.

Acting for the people s health interest..

There is clear evidence that some of these drug companies will even go much further than just dismiss this proposed treatment especially if it is going to affect their profits.

Imagine this 10 000 patients on some drug costing say 500-1000 pounds each per year
Average time to get well 20 yrs –income in that time –go on work it out

Then an invention come s along and hey presto we can get them well in just 6 weeks at a cost of 200 quid

Do you think they will just sit around and go err – what planet are you on jack?

Ever heard of a brilliant doctor with the name of Raymond rife the gifted scientist and winner of 14 government awards including scientist of the year award twice.
Rife discovered that some major diseases could be eliminated with frequencies based on that diseases individual electromagnetic signature. He uses the same effect, which causes a glass to shatter by the use of some peoples voices.

These distinguished medical doctors who originally confirmed part or this entire discovery included:
    E.C. Rosenow, Sr.

I think that is part of the reason. I personally turn to homeopathic remedies because I don’t like the treatments for what I have. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia almost 9 years ago and my mother has it as well. I watch my mom and all the stuff she takes and it scares me. She is a walking drug store. To me all that stuff she takes is going to affect her liver and kidneys at some point and I don’t want that to happen to me. It seems like whenever you go to the doctor with a pain or something they just want to give you a pill and not a real resolution to the underlying problem.

  4. udaya k Says:

Some people are sensible and wise to know what is right and what is wrong not all people are, though they think so.

And those who looks for treatment which is in harmony with him and his surroundings are those kind. That is what the so called alternative medicine is all about. Alternative medicine to my mind is the main system and only complete system of medicine if properly integrated. We have already a Veda in it in the name of Ayurveda. Integration of other systems of medicines with it is all what is required. A person who is a great warrior in Archery cannot be called an adept in defending his country because he do not know how to defend his country but only knows offending on others to defend. A complete soldier is a person who is adept in all kinds of warfare, from peace talks to mass destruction. It is the same with medicine. A medicine which kills germs, suppress disease, maim parts, surgically remove organs, do not know the language of receive, hospitality, love, care and the three earlier methods of overcoming obstacles i.e. Sama, Dama, Dhanda, Bheda. Bheda is what is practised here which is offensive comes only as the last extreme and only resort, which the present system is unfortunately making it the first choice towards the attempts to cure. Neither Chanakya Neethi nor Machiavellian Tactics might approve that. Unfortunately, the present generation is myopic to the extent that they see only science as the panecea for everything compounded with short memory and do not connect their previous illness to present illness. They consider the body organs as various parts in an automobile ready to repair. Remove, replace, bend, cut, dent, oil, repair, fuel etc. are the methods. Those who understand body is not only physical but more of metaphysical moves towards the TRUTH which unfortunately is not what we see and hear and feel and taste, but beyond that.

Good grief! There’s some really poor answers here that make no attempt to answer the question.

Certainly alternative medicine seems to be far more popular in the US than in the UK and Ireland (where health care is available to all, irrespective of their income, if any). Apparently over 45 million americans do not have health care, as well as over 30 million who are under insured (i.e. their health insurance is likely to not cover all their treatment). In such a wealthy, developed country this is pretty disgusting.

No wonder this percentage of the population turn to sham treatments and con men, similar to african villagers still relying on voodoo and the ‘medicine man’ to cure them. If however, you have world class medical science at your disposal and you choose not to use it, then you really should be ashamed.

Raymond Rife: A microscope manufacturer who tried to market his fake product as a panacea, check the link.

The whole ‘pharmaceutical conspiracy’ theory: IF treatments exist that ARE being suppressed, then they’d be taken up by developing countries as a quick and cheap way to cure disease. Developing countries have the resources, technology and lack of legal system to quickly put these treatments into the market place (as was demonstrated when they copied retro-viral drugs for their AIDS sufferers, despite legal pressure from Big Pharma).

Alternative medicine does not work. Anecdotal evidence is not evidence, just anecdotes. Independent, double-blind trials are within the grasp of everyone:- there’s no excuse not to use them (unless you have something to lose of course…!)

Yes. That’s precisely how I got into it. I went to an MD at Kaiser who couldn’t help me with a benign growth I had on a lymphnode in my neck. He said Benign and walked out of the room after telling me not to worry about it. Not another word and I had to pay so much out of pocket it forced me to get a personal loan. I went to an herbalist the following week on the advice of a friend. He said it was a calcified lymph node which was later confirmed when I had an X ray at a chiropractic office. For $40 I got some tincture with a bee pollen base. The herbal mixture in it was for thelymphatic system. Within 2 months the lump was half the size and then remained that way until I later found something more powerful to degranulate calcified lymph nodes (devils claw mixture). I’m glad I can fall back on the emergency room if I have an accident, but frankly I’ve just had so much more luck with alternative meds that I don’t need an MD anymore. And my MD uncle is even interested in some of the treatments that have been successful for me (like seaweed for my low thyroid).

I think that is part of the problem. There was a funny Seinfeld episode about George needing to get his tonsils out. He goes to see his doctor who tells him the operation will cost four thousand dollars. Kramer convinces him to see a holistic healer named Tor for 38 dollars. Tor gives George an herbal tea to cure his tonsils which turns him purple.

On a more serious note, even in the UK where they have socialized medicine, they still have problems with alternative medicine. The NHS spends millions a year subsidizing homeopathy clinics mainly because Prince Charles is a staunch supporter. I know there are a few properly trained medical doctors out there who inexplicably support homeopathy, but for the most part it appears to be people with poor scientific backgrounds. I think this speaks to the failure of our education system to teach science and critical thinking.

I wish there were more debates out there between homeopaths and real doctors. Personally, I would love to go head to head with one just to expose how little they know about the human body and disease. Homepathy has been adhering to the same mumbo jumbo since its creation several hundred years ago. The important point to note is that modern medicine is constantly evolving. It is far from perfect but it is constantly striving for perfection. Most alternative medicine treatments already claim to know everything, to have the cure for everything, and to be side effect free. It is ridiculous and any free thinker should be able to see that.

  8. Nathan W Says:

There are many effective alternative treatments that work as good as, or better than, pharmaceutical drugs, with less side effects. For example, a study found St John’s wort to be as effective as Prozac with mild depression. So why aren’t doctors prescribing Prozac, or at least investigating this further? The answer: Follow the money.

Many people simply question the medical system, and for good reason. The alternative market has its fair share of snake oil salesman, it’s up to the consumer to be smart and educated enough to spot the snake oil salesmen and really understand what they’re spending their money on.
